“Jacob is a musician of great talent, and his success comes from a combination of daily practice and his musicality” - Rémi Bolduc
ABOUT JACOB
Jacob Do is a saxophonist, composer, and educator whose resonant and nuanced sound lends itself to emotional storytelling through improvisation. Jacob elevates and serves the music through his authentic, precise, and ambitious approach as an improviser, connecting to audiences through the shared human experience. As an artist, he has crafted original compositions and arrangements unified by soundscapes of intensity and vulnerability; all while being immensely steeped in the rich tradition of Black American Music. Jacob completed his degree in Jazz Performance at McGill University in 2021, where he had the privilege of working with some of Canada’s most renowned musicians, including Rémi Bolduc, André White, and Christine Jensen. Currently, Jacob is channelling his creativity into a new venture - the Jacob Do Octet - where he combines his extensive training with a bold artistic vision, resulting in a captivating blend of tradition and contemporary exploration. This refreshing instrumentation gives Jacob access to a dynamic sound palette that evokes ferocity, persistence, intimacy, and nostalgia. The Jacob Do Octet is enthusiastically anticipating its debut performance at the Yardbird Suite in Edmonton, AB in March 2024, promising a thrilling new chapter in Jacob’s musical journey.
