David Rourke - Guitar
Paul Johnston - Bass
Daniel Verdecchia - Drums
Canadian saxophonist, composer and arranger Jacob Do leads a group of Montreal and Edmonton musicians that culminates in an energetic and sophisticated jazz ensemble. With strong roots in the jazz tradition, the group aims to deliver a high level of improvisation that includes aspects of storytelling and interaction. Jacob, Max Zhang (trumpet), David Rourke (guitar), and Daniel Verdecchia (drums) are all current students at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, where they have studied with some of North America’s finest musicians, including Remi Bolduc, Kevin Dean, John Hollenbeck, and Andre White, among others. They are backed by Schulich alumni and Edmonton bassist Paul Johnston. Together, the band presents Jacob’s original compositions, arrangements, and classic jazz standards in a refreshing way while remaining connected to the history of America’s original art form.

Opening act: Sean Croal Trio
Sean Croal is an upright and electric bassist, part-time world traveler, and vinyl record enthusiast. Born in St. Albert, Alberta but left at a young age to study bass in Doha, Qatar under renown bassist Matteo Gaspari of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra. A brief brush up with bone cancer in 2012 encouraged Sean to move back to Alberta. After a full recovery (and a new knee) Sean continued on to study with legendary Alberta bass player Rubim De Toledo. Sean is quickly establishing himself as one of the most prominent voices in the Alberta music scene.
